I’m back with another instalment of my #50books2021 blogs. This set of books includes a Christian classic, a modern Kidlit phenomenon, another book from the Queen of Crime and the Goodreads Novel of the Year 2020. Variety is, after all, the spice of life!


Book 9: Desiring God – John Piper (Christian)

The leader of a training course I was part of during my ‘gap yah’ rated this as one of the top three Christian books he had ever read. High praise from a man with several Theology qualifications from highly prestigious institutions! Re-reading this 25th anniversary revised edition, I absolutely can see where he was coming from.

#WeRead2020: 9-12

I’m hoping that my last review post introduced some of you to some excellent new reads; I am always keen to hear that I have played some part in creating new reader-book relationships! This quartet is as diverse in genre as it could be, with one fiction, one Christian, one children’s and one audio/non-fiction book. I hope it satisfies your bookish needs!

HAAAAASTIIIIINGS! Ahem. As much as I would confess that Poirot’s usual companion is a bumbling, lovestruck, slightly unlikeable fool…he is our bumbling, lovestruck, slightly unlikeable fool, and it was a bit jarring for Poirot to have a different companion on this latest case: the village doctor Dr. Shepperd. Living out his retirement in a small village, our moustachioed hero is drawn into a intriguing murder case and, not unwillingly, drops his gardening duties to investigate.
